Genealogy Online
Written by Ava Belinda

The Internet has revolutionized the way people research genealogy. With new websites coming online everyday, searching for people is easier than ever. Genealogical information abounds on the Web. There are many genealogy Websites, and some of them are free. Here's how to trace your family tree on the Internet.

Not only will researching your family tree online save time and money by reducing need to travel in order to obtain records, but it also will enable you to access other researchers' data. You will have access to research that before the Internet may have been impossible to get.

Check out the helpful sites that exist simply for your use in genealogical research. These sites contain databases and

search capabilities that can quickly aid in determining whether you are on the right path in your search. Check family search organizations and genealogy websites; some have current information on family members, not just ancestors.

Go to the official website of the state your family was last living in. There you will find links to official departments of

the state and can search through license records and property ownership records.

Add other people's research to your favorites on your web browser, not your research. You need to be sure that it is relevant to your research

first, and then verify the facts before including in research.

Search for your family name followed by the word "family" (i.e., "Smith family") using your favorite search engine. This will connect you to countless Web sites of family searches that have gone on before you. It's possible that one side of your family heritage has already been researched.

Not all genealogy can be constructed online. Obtaining birth and death certificates must be done by snail mail or personal visits--and often involves traveling to a country of origin.
