When I read the 411 on the rep thing, it says it gives 1 point for every 50 posts?? I am not getting that.....and when I tried to give rep to someone else, it wouldn't go through.......

karie. the rep is defaulted to 10 for users with rep power of 1.

you went below 10 so you lost rep power till you got to 10.

maybe you pissed someone off :)

I bumped you up a little because this is a beta board. do not expect help when we go live. you have to earn you way to the top like misty. :)

And this is exactly why i hate the rep system. It is nothing but problems at the other forum I am on. People can neg rep you just for not liking you.....and it really serves no purpose since we all live in this community and kinda/sorta know one another. Just because some may not agree with you doesn't mean you should wear the neg rep around this forum.

And that wasn't what my original post was about anyways.....lol
I was just noticing that i wasn't getting the points for having over 50 posts in here and just commented on the fact that maybe it wasn't working. I personally don't care about it.

How do you know when someone has taken points from you? Like, what if you weren't paying too close attention. Is there a way to track other than paying close attention? I could totally see myself getting all obsessed with my rep. Karie's is bigger!! LOL!

No, Not at this time. There may be a way to PM the person who's rep has been affected. I'll poke around the web, but sugestion noted.

On the other forum i frequent, if someone reps you, you get a PM saying so and who it is from.........not sure about if someone neg rep's you..hasn't happened to me yet.

In user cp, at the bottom of the right section it shows who gave you reputation. Now, I can't remember where the star ratings shows... I'll have to go searching for it...

OK...you click on the rating hyperlink in your stats and it shows who gave you stars.

I'll have to re-read your rep power notes;

Which is more important the rep power or the rep points?
When you give someone points are you actually giving up some of your own?
I can see this could be a problem if the points mean something, do they?
Yet again, if the person knows who left them a neg. it could turn into retalitory negs like Ebay so everyone will be afraid to neg. or afraid to voice a different opinion in a discussion http://www.xs4all.nl/%7Eernstmul/images/yahoo/33.gif

1. Well, It is not a matter of importance really, but understand your question. Rep Points are just that, points. Rep Power is the amount of points you can affect someone elses points. If you reach 50 rep points, your rep power goes to 2 Now, when you affect someone elses rep, you are affecting it by 2 points.

2. No. No Relation

3. The points mean nothing really.Think of it as street cred for forum dweebs. BUT, they can mean something in some cases. There are defaut options in place for the promoton system. No descision has be made yet on this, but could make moderation much easier on a busy forum. For example: Users placed in the restricted user status (See future Forum Rules) may be brought up to regular user status if their rep points increase by, say 20. This can be done automatically as a rule. Or, regular users can gain more forum privileges if their rep gains a certain number as of the date they joined the forum. Then they do mean something.

4. Giving a rep point or taking one away is annonymous unless you choose to leave a comment. Then they see it in their CP.
