Ok, I see it was moved to goods and services. Why? It's a community event?
Michele, yes, I guess it is a community event (Although not even in Eastvale), but sponsored by your business, cvparent.com. Correct?
Posts get moved all the time especially when businesses post business events or sponsored events and place them in General Discussion. They belong in Goods and Services.
When Eastvale Computer Services had our Computer Cleaning fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, I posted it in the Goods and Services. It was a business event even though all checks were made to the American Cancer Society. Sure, I wanted to post under General Discussion too, but because it was a business, my business, that put on the event it belonged in Goods and Services. Although the event you posted was technically a community event your business is putting on the event, so it too, belongs in Goods and Services.
If CVParent would like to post that you are sponsoring a costume exchange at the Fall Festival next month, I guess there would be a loop-hole for you because the Fall Festival is a community event, and the community events that are put on by the events committee are fine under General Discussion because those events are volunteer events by and for the community. There is no financial benefit or incentive.
Other posts that get moved are school fundraisers. They always want to post (and do) in General Discussion when they belong in the School Forums. There are many, many other examples of posts we move because businesses put on promotional events.
I think most people use their unread messages on the top right anyway so I think all posts get pretty much the same visibility.
So, everyone, please think before you post a business event under the description of a "Community Event". I do not want General Discussion to turn into a place where everyone promotes their business or is constantly asking for financial support from the community for their event, fundraiser, sale, whatever.
Last month, I placed a new feature that will make sure you verify the forum you are getting ready to place your post. This feature is put there to give you a chance to think about whether the forum you are getting ready to post in is the correct forum.

I read from all unread posts so it doesn't make a difference to me...

Mike,
As far as the school fundraisers go...they put on lots of events that many in the community may be interested in; however, I know a lot of people probably ignore the school forums if they have no kids attending those particular schools. I do see the difference for business-sponsored events, but I think any school events would more appropriately be considered in the same category of community events as does the Fall festival, for example.
What do you think of an events forum or sub-forum in one of the main discussion forums?

I have to agree with both Mikes I read from unread so I don't know where the post comes from I just read them all. I don't have any school age kids and I don't ignore the school section. I find it interesting to see what's going on in the neighborhood.

Thanks for the explanation Mike. It makes perfect sense. I was just stumped initially because it seems that in the Good & Services area, people are selling used stuff (garage sale type) or looking for referrals for services they need. I think an events sub-category like Misty suggested would be great. I do like the new feature that you added to re-check which category is most appropriate - great idea. I couldn't find the description of each category to identify where I should post. I know better now but are there category descriptions? The name alone does not always make it obvious.
Thanks again!

Thanks Michele. I cannot add category descriptions in the verification of the forum, but I will look at the category descriptions we have that describe each forum and see if I can make things clearer.
