Please explain the optional Buddy List. I created one, but don't know how to use it, nor the purpose of it.
Thanks!

I needed to add people to my friends list because it looked so sad when it said "Linda has no friends":( so now I have friends.:D (thanks friends for going on my buddy list) Now what does that do?

There are a couple of functions that the buddy list can help with. One is regarding private messages (PMs). You can restrict receiving PMs from only those on your buddy list. You can also make your profile private so only your buddies can see it and make comments on it as well (the comments section is under all the pictures of your buddies).

Other than those two things, its kinda just a fun feature. A little taste of what myspace is like if you use the comments section for blogging and/or receiving comments from friends. And doesn't it just feel good to have friends? :)

Oh! and i think in the "Quick Links" menu, there something that says "show buddy list." When you select that, a box opens up with a list of your buddies. Those that are online will show in red text.

Well, the Buddy list really only has three real functions.

1. If you ever want to make your profile private you can set it so it is visible only to your Buddy List to vew. Kind of helpful if you blog or have comments on your site, but only want certain people to know what you are writing. (Control Panel > Options)

2. If you want to block PM's from coming to you, from your options, you can accept PM's only from your buddy list.(Control Panel > Options)

3. You can allow only friends (buddy list) to place comments in your profile.(Control Panel > Options)

Other than that, it is just a social networking and fun feature.

A quick tip: To see your buddy list, click on the Quick Links from the top right menu and select Open Buddy List.

I was composing my reply at the same time as Lupe was, so I did not see hers until I posted :)

But how do I get on someones buddy list when it says that their profile is private?

I would send them a private message or (pm) asking them to initiate the buddy list request. When you respond yes, then they will be on your buddy list as well as you on theirs.

I'm sure there are other ways, but I don't know them :) and I hadn't seen a response from anyone esle yet. Didn't want to leave ya hangin. Hope that helps. :wavey:

But how do I get on someones buddy list when it says that their profile is private?

you can send them a request. go to your control panel by clicking on "user CP" in the upper left, scroll down toward the bottom to the "miscellaneous" category and click on "buddy / ignore lists." In the "add new user to list" box, type in the name of the user you want to be buddies with. Click on the "save list" button and you're done. If you don't think that person checks their friend requests very often, you can try sending them a private message (but some people take PMs only from buddies).

I'll bump the friend request thread so people remember to check.
